I picked the wrong time to start this weblog as we’ve been out of town up island attending my cousin’s wedding in Tofino for the weekend. The first two nights we spent in an executive suite at the Tin Wis Resort so most meals we ate in, until today. For dinner, Masako the kids and I walked up the street from our hotel to Shelter, a spot we noticed earlier in the day while driving into Tofino. A stylish, newly renovated west coast bistro with large stone fireplace, open kitchen and surprisingly affordable menu has easily been the highlight of our trip, apart from the wedding of course. After finishing her eggplant ratatouille, with grilled asparagus, Masako remarked that this had been the best dinning experience since we moved back to Canada. I had a thin crust pizza with provolone, mozzarella, parmesan, bacon, chorizo and basil drizzled with a balsamic sauce with a pint of my current favourite local brew, Blue Truck Ale. While the weather hasn’t been the best I have no doubt that we’ll be back in Tofino soon and we’ll be back to Shelter as well, just hope we can take advantage of the patio next time. Tomorrow we’re heading to Breakers for breakfast before driving home and hoping for a repeat success.
